The Big Pumpkin Run will be utilizing chip/mat start and chip finish for 2016. HOWEVER, the award categories will be based on the USATF sanctioned rules and regulations “First to Finish” Rule 245 that recognize gun start as the award time. So please if you are a runner who plans to place in an award category position yourself accordingly (meaning do not sit in the back of the crowd of 1,500 runners and then submit a complaint when your chip time was faster than an award winner.) We will not answer complaints such as that.

Please see rule for reference: Rule 245 (3) of 2009USATFRules.pdf:

The official time shall be the time elapsed between the start of the watches or timing devices resulting from an appropriate start signal and when the athlete reaching the finish line. The actual time elapsed between when an athlete reaching the starting line and finish line can be made known to the athlete, but will not be considered as official time.

Let’s keep running simple whenever possible. Thank You!
